Develop Your Own Game from Concept to Deployment

Everyone loves a good game and they’ve come a long way since the days of your parents. Our goal is to empower students to become creators rather than just consumers. Creating your own game or virtual reality experience in this course will leave you with a significant personal and professional accomplishment.

Week 1, Intro to Game Design with Unity: Students will learn to use the Unity editor to create levels and environments, program mechanics in C#, and create a few guided projects. Afterward, students create their own game.

Week 2, Game Development with Unity and VRLearn the best ways to use the Unity game development engine and tackle the unique design challenges that arise when developing for Virtual and Augmented Reality. You’ll learn how the game engine controls everything from moving platforms to artificial intelligence. Plus, you’ll explore the basics of C# programming.

Students must bring their own mobile device. iPhone: iPhone 6s or newer operating at least iOS 8. Android: version needs to be 4.1 or newer.

Basic understanding of algebra is strongly recommended and experience with Unity or programming is helpful (though not required) due to the fast-paced nature of this course. This course uses GoogleVR SDK which allows students to test their projects on a mobile device without using an expensive headset.

Our Game Design courses equip students with the tools to design their own game worlds, characters and elements with the same software as the pros. In our Game Development Academy with VR, students will learn game development skills that can be applied to multiple game engines and programming languages used throughout the industry. This is an excellent Academy for students interested in going beyond gameplay to build and modify games that suit their unique, creative vision..

What is Google Cardboard?

Google Cardboard is a low-cost, open-source framework for constructing a simple viewer that lets anyone view virtual reality using their mobile phone. Students taking this course will receive a special Digital Media Academy version of the Google Cardboard, which they can take home.

Camp Upgrades

Get the most out of your summer with Digital Media Academy when you add any or all of the following:

Lunch Plan

Make things easy and get lunch on campus so you don’t have to pack your own. Lunch Plans start at $95/week at select locations.

Overnight Housing

Stay in the dorms and eat on-campus, Sunday through Friday. Overnight Housing starts at $695/week where available.

Extended Day

Our flexible Extended Day option allows families to pick-up students as late as 6:00 PM from Monday to Thursday at all locations.

Weekend Stay

Add Weekend Stay and enjoy extra activities and day trips around the area. Weekend Stay starts at $380/weekend at select locations.
